João Castro Silva

 1966 in Portugal

Joao Castro silva was born in Lisbon in 1966 where we works and lives.

Draperies is a installation of thirty-nine reliefs, in front and back, made by the direct woodcut method of cryptomeria japonica wood.

In sculpture, draperie means all kinds of clothing or fabrics representing sets of pleats.

Closely connected to the representation of the human body, the draperies contribute to the individual characterisation of characters.

The draperies also accentuate the perception of movement and create a greater amount of zones of light and shadow.
