Lucas

Simões

1980 in Brazil

Practice and artistic making are related to the intrinsic specificities of each place where he realises his projects. Simões’ interest in architecture is rooted in the changes and trends that take place both in and around it over time. His practice addresses the notion of ‘time shifting’ in architecture; both its physical manifestations of change and potential dilapidation, as well as social perceptions of changes in the style of architectural design.

Lucas Simões' work is highly influenced by his architectural and design background. Over the years Simões has experimented working with a wide range of materials: maps, books, photographs, concrete, silicon, wax and paper.

The artist processes the materials in different ways: burning, cutting, layering, reshaping, diluting or distorting them.
