TRACES EXHIBITION 10-22 MARCH

"DOGMA 19" PROJECT

Traces exhibition happened at The Art Space, a Cass Art space in Kingston. This project was, once again, part of Dogma 19.

The idea behind committing to strict rules for our group shows is to inspire more creativity.

We can get trapped under the weight of our individual styles, and it can be liberating to put them aside. In addressing an exhibition theme, we wish to set ourselves an additional challenge and will all use the same medium.

Our objective is to achieve greater impact through a more holistic body of work, integrated not only by site and theme, but by material too. Coherence is key.

The Dogma 19 Group was established by six post-graduate students on the Wimbledon MFA programme to create work for an exhibition in 2019 at the Crypt Gallery, Euston Road, London. For this inaugural show, which had been given the title ‘Immurement’, our chosen material was cement.

The group continues to work together on other projects, abiding by the same principles and rules. For this exhibition we have chosen tracing paper as our main medium and titled the exhibition after this medium.

We get to realize how many different pieces can be made out of the same material. How our unique methods of work can be so divergent, even with some features in common.
